Simple, fast, and safe: Tadano’s automatic counterweight setup function
When you get to the work site with your Tadano crane, there is one priority above all: Getting ready for the lift as quickly as possible. That is why we have equipped our AC cranes, all the way to the AC 6.300-1, with a fast and automatic counterweight setup function.
As easy as pie:
All you have to do is move your Tadano crane’s superstructure to the right angle range and activate the automatic counterweight setup function on the IC-1. Then all the following steps will be carried out automatically while you continue actuating the control joystick:
- The superstructure rotates to the 4° position.
- The counterweight lifting cylinders are telescoped into the kidney-shaped recesses on the counterweight plates “as if by magic.”
- The superstructure rotates backwards to the 0° position.
- The counterweight lifting cylinders bring the counterweight onto the superstructure frame – done!

It almost goes without saying that Tadano’s counterweight setup function comes with significant advantages for crane operators: It makes it possible to set up a crane quickly, easily, and, above all, safely – dangerous “missteps” when lifting the counterweight plates are eliminated thanks to the automatic system.
