An industry leader in turnkey lift services, Maxim Crane Works prides itself on having a crane for virtually any need for its customer base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with offering one of the most diverse and extensive crane fleets in the world, it still had a hole to fill with its crawler crane inventory. \u201cWe offer crawler cranes ranging from 30- to 2,535-ton lifting capacity,\u201d says Greg Bellcoff, Vice President of Fleet for Maxim Crane. \u201cStill, we had a gap with nothing in the 1,100- to 1,400-ton range.\u201d That meant they were missing out on key heavy infrastructure, industrial, girder, wind and steel projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is, until recently. The heavy lifting solutions provider is in the midst of a fleet refresh that began in 2022. During this time, Maxim Crane has invested in several Tadano cranes. This includes two, 400-ton capacity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tadano.com\/uscan\/en\/lifting-equipment\/lattice-boom-crawler-cranes\/cc-24-400-1\/\">CC 24.400-1 Crawler Crane<\/a> models, offering a maximum boom length of 413.4 ft and tip height of 545 ft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why this renewed interest in Tadano? Bellcoff offers this. \u201cWe have a very appealing business relationship with Tadano. It\u2019s more of a partnership where both companies are invested in each other\u2019s success. We have nothing but confidence in Tadano.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daniel Murray, Vice President of Crawler for Maxim Crane, traces his Tadano experience back many years to when he was an oiler, and the fleet included a Demag CC2800 Crawler Crane. He adds, \u201cWe\u2019ve owned a lot of Demag cranes in the past, and the blend of the best from Tadano and Demag make for a very good crane. It\u2019s the \u2018Rolex\u2019 of cranes. The fit and finish are unequalled.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At bauma 2025, the company invested in one more \u201cRolex\u201d of cranes. This time, they own the first in the world, and it\u2019s their first crane in the 1,100- to 1,400-ton capacity class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>CC 78.1250-1 \u2013 the right fit all around<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before investing in a crane to fill the gap in the company\u2019s crawler crane fleet, Maxim Crane officials visited Tadano\u2019s factory in Germany where the crawlers are manufactured. \u201cWe wanted to see the quality, control and capability of the crane,\u201d says Bellcoff. \u201cYou can see the pride on the factory floor with the workers.\u201d After that visit, they became the first in the world to own a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tadano.com\/uscan\/en\/lifting-equipment\/lattice-boom-crawler-cranes\/cc-78-1250-1\/\">CC 78.1250-1<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to both Bellcoff and Murray, the crane\u2019s flexibility and transportability helped to seal the deal with the 1,375-ton class crane. Maxim Crane is a large logistics company, who moves their own equipment. Even though they were jumping in capacity quite a bit with the new crane, no new trailers had to be purchased to accommodate crane transport. \u201cLoad and size fit our heavy haul fleet very well,\u201d says Bellcoff. Murray adds, \u201cIt fits well into our fleet and meets our customers\u2019 need.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with ordering a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tadano.com\/uscan\/en\/technologies\/cc-boom-boosters\/https:\/www.tadano.com\/uscan\/en\/technologies\/cc-boom-boosters\/\">Boom Booster kit<\/a>, both say that they don\u2019t need a super load to transport it. The Boom Booster offers the ability to increase lift capacity for the CC 78.1250-1 by up to 30%. It\u2019s 6-meter design folds for transport and easily unfolds at the job site for crane assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With space being a premium at virtually all job sites, flexible crane features help to save space when erecting the crane, and the design helps to advance safety. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tadano.com\/uscan\/en\/technologies\/split-tray\/\">Superlift Split Tray<\/a> with quick coupling technology can be used during main boom set up, and it boosts efficiency by allowing uncoupling of a counterweight that is no longer required, which reduces assembly time and lowers the number of personnel needed. The crane\u2019s Fall Protection System advances safety when rigging boom sections, and the device quickly installs from ground level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>First job secured<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Even before possessing the new crane, Maxim Crane started bidding it out for work. Once again, the support from the Tadano Pan America sales and engineering teams came through. The two companies worked together on a targeted demolition project in Ohio. \u201cWithout the crane, we needed help with capacity and ground pressures, since part of the project bridges over a state highway,\u201d explains Bellcoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tadano team partnered with Maxim Crane to get the necessary information to make the customer feel comfortable using the new crane at the project site. \u201cWe are demanding, and they walked through the job like it was their own,\u201d says Murray. \u201cTadano helped us land this job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the Maxim Crane team receives and is trained on the CC 78.1250-1, it is slated to go directly to the W.H. Sammis Power Plant demolition project in Stratton, Ohio. Adding to the complexity is a portion of the plant\u2019s baghouses run over the top of a tunnel that carries vehicle traffic on Route 7, so not everything on site could be imploded. Remanents must be cut at height and brought down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crane\u2019s lifting capacity will help to boost safety. \u201cBecause of the crane\u2019s capabilities, there will be less cutting to do, and bigger pieces can be taken down,\u201d mentions Bellcoff. \u201cWe anticipate this being a time and labor savings, as well as a boost to safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The success of landing the first job has the Maxim Crane team looking ahead and signaling that this may not be the last CC 78.1250-1 for the company. \u201cThis size crane has been an ask for a long time with our customers,\u201d says Murray. \u201cWe may end up with a couple of them.
